Letter From Katy
Hey Joi Fam,
When we reflect on our favorite childhood Christmas memories, one thing that doesn’t often stand out in our minds is the insane amount of hard work and commitment from a dedicated, loving mother who worked around the clock behind the scenes to make sure the season was nothing short of magical.
It occurred to me that the magic of Christmas isn’t Santa, his elves, or the presents he lugs down the chimney. The magic is Mom.
It is Mom who makes Christmas special for her family, makes delicious made-from-scratch holiday desserts that make the whole house smell like an Auntie Anne’s pretzel shop, and sets the warm, inviting tone of the home with her meticulously placed Christmas decor as soon as the turkey’s served. (And God bless the mom managing the daily shuffle of Elf on the Shelf in addition to all her other seasonal tasks—you are the real MVP!)
So, Mom, while you’re doing allll the things this holiday season and creating magic for everyone else, may I encourage you to create a little magic for yourself?
And while you’re at it, don’t forget to slow down and prioritize your own self-care. Between pinning the perfect neutral farmhouse fireplace mantle to your Pinterest board and overspending on decor at Hobby Lobby, make sure to enjoy the magic of the moment you’re in, and bask in the many blessings that abound in your life. We’re here, we made it another year, and we have a lot to be grateful for.
Don’t let the stress of the holidays overshadow your gratefulness, Mama.
